Anniversary

(Montague Harbour)

I can’t believe that a year has already zipped past. We took possession of this house on December 15th, 2004. It’s amazing how the days can sometimes pass slowly, but the years fly by.

We are currently trying to get the horses to live in a room at the side of the barn. The hope is that we can leave the door open all the time and the horses can go in and out as they please. This should result in less work as they will be able to walk around and poop somewhere other than in their stalls. Hill is willing to be lead into the room and will stay as long as there is a pile of grain on the floor. Oopsie thinks that this is the scaries place on earth and digs in her heels. With her shaggy dark brown winter coat, she looks exactly like a donkey. Because Oopsie refuses to go in the room, Hill will not stay for long as she does not want to be alone. The other day when it was snowing, they decided to stay out in the cold with their backs to the wind instead of going in, so who knows if this will ever be successful.

Winter arrives!

Two to five centimeters of snow. Overjoyed kids. “Warm” weather and a sunny Saturday.

Everyone is outside playing in the new snow and having a ball. We’ll be off to pick up a tree soon and will decorate it this evening with the usual hors d’oeuvres and crummy Xmas tape playing…

Hill loves the snow. She ran out of the barn and rolled in it all happily.

Oopsie watched as she does every morning when Hill rolls in their breakfast.

Flat River is frozen once again.

Barn Cats. . .

By Gentleman Farmer at 9:34 pm on December 3, 2005 | No comments

If it is called a “Barn Cat,” then what is it doing in the house?

We were asked to take a cat from the neighbour who was dealing with an unwanted teenage pregnancy. We took two females as they don’t stink as much when they pee. We’ll fix them when they are older so as not to have too many of our own.

K thinks they are too small to go straight to the barn and our neighbour had eight kittens that she really wanted to be rid of… They are currently living in a big cage in the garage with a heat lamp and an old blanket, but they make a few trips a day into the house at feeding time to stretch their legs.

Soon they will move to the barn and start in on the mice that are starting to show up in greater and greater numbers.
