Survey dudes.

By Gentleman Farmer at 1:12 pm on June 26, 2006 | No comments

The survey dudes are here today to mark out the back 2.7 acres of our property so that we can finally use the silly strip of land that goes up behind our place. It is currently planted with hay for the horses that is so long that it should be harvested before the horses are put out there. We also still have to look into buying posts and making an electric fence, but at least now we will know where our borders are. :-)

Crocs!

By Gentleman Farmer at 2:17 pm on June 23, 2006 | No comments

Crocs for everyone!

Crocs are these silly rubber-ette “beach” shoes that are the latest fad out here. Everyone wears them and we have succumbed to the trend. I went into Source for Sports and got a pair for everyone in the family. They come in 20 colours, so we have a variety of them and everyone is extremely pleased.

They don’t only make shoes. Check out their web site: http://www.crocs.com

CBC Radio Rocks!

By Gentleman Farmer at 11:42 pm on June 20, 2006 | No comments

OK, well it doesn’t really “ROCK!” it hardly even “rocks.”

Before moving here we never listened to CBC radio. Actually, we did not even listen to Canadian radio. We used to listen to 99.9 The Buzz out of Burlington, VT. It “ROCKS!”

Since moving here we listen to CBC radio all the time. Given the choices of radio the province has to offer, you would too. Out of the nine available, these are the top three:

93.1 “Magic 93. An MBS Radio Station” out of Charlottetown -> I think MBS stands for Mostly Bull Shit. I wake daily to crap that was crappy 20 years ago
100.9 “Big Dog” out of Nova Scotia -> Slighly better, but still loaded with lots ot totally unlistenable junk and all the ads and info are for NS and it gets annoying.
96.1 CBC Radio One -> Lots of talk from people who sound like they smoked too many drugs in college… Interesting, informative and sometimes funny (even when they are not going for that)

While listening a few days back, I heard an interesting story about companies adopting a rather strange policy for decision making in cases where the choice is somewhat arbitrary and we have decided to use it also…

Paper-Rock-Sissors is now how decisions that will not affect the bottom line are being decided in our eastern headquarters! Aparently, flipping a coin is not as fair as the side facing up before the toss comes up 52% of the time and paper-rock-sissors statisically works out evenly. Also, as was pointed out on the show, anyone with three fingers can play and no props or aids are required to be handly when important decisions need to be made.

CFA Explained Beautifully

By Gentleman Farmer at 9:43 pm on June 16, 2006 | No comments

I noticed that some traffic was coming to my site from a referral in Nova Scotia and found this posting on another blog

It hilariously and eloquently explains the concept of a CFA.

Blogger’s crummy spell checker does not know the word blog! :-)

Peacock’s sweet song

By Gentleman Farmer at 8:10 pm on June 14, 2006 | No comments

You may ask, “What does a peacock sound like? It is a such a beautiful bird, surely it has a sweet, peaceful voice to accompany its stunning plumage.”

Click on the image to view a short video.

Ahhh, now that is beautiful! He will do this with very little provocation. In the middle of last summer, when we had two of them, they would call back and forth to one another like this. They make this noise well into the evening and start very early in the mornings. People have asked in the past, if the roosters wake us up in the mornings. The answer is always, “No! The !#%^** peacock did at 4 AM!”

K and Hill

By Gentleman Farmer at 5:39 pm on June 11, 2006 | No comments

K has been working with Hill and an instructor named Kelly to get Hill into better shape.. They have also been working with Oopsie a little. Yesterday, they had a great time teaching Hill to step over a post. Instead of just adjusting her step to miss the “log” she decided it would be best to spring over it. K and her had a great time at this. The pictures are from after she did it a few times, so she is not jumping as high as she was at the beginning.

Flat River, the river

By Gentleman Farmer at 7:59 pm on June 9, 2006 | No comments

Flat River is walking distance from our door, yet I have never walked there. It is one of many rivers around that makes me wish I had a canoe and much, much more free time to explore. This picture was taken quickly on the way back from The Store where I was dropping off the day’s orders. I hopped out of the car, took a picture of the river on either side of the road and rushed back home to start on the next task (threatening the kids about doing their homework).

Pioneer Cemetery Road

By Gentleman Farmer at 9:15 pm on June 8, 2006 | 1 Comment

There are tons of “Pioneer Cemetery Road” around here. When you drive down them, you usually come to a tiny cemetery with very old headstones with all the same family names on them. I think this one belonged to the MacMillan Clan.

These “archival” pictures were recreated yesterday and rapidly aged in our studios to look authentic. Click on them damn it!

Tourist Season

By Gentleman Farmer at 10:43 am on June 4, 2006 | No comments

In honour of the beginning of the tourist season, our remaining peacock likes to walk along the side of the highway or show off in the yard. K and I have already looked out in alarm to see why a car is stopped in front of our house. Its occupants looking at something in the yard. We immediately look for the kids, but then realise that they are looking at the peacock, horses, or a flock of chickens.
