Up Early
Isn’t it nice to wake up early and slip downstairs before everyone else is awake, make yourself a quiet cup of tea and sit relaxing on the couch with a comfy blanket all the while sipping your tea and enjoying the calm before the storm? WELL? ISN’T iT?!?
That’s not how today went! I was awoken out of a dead sleep by K who has some sort of supernatural momma sense that something is amiss. She was looking out the window and saying, “Hill got out.” Hill was on the wrong side of the fence happily grazing while the other two were still on the correct side of the fence and were working up the courage to join her.
Before I can manage to get my clothes on (a much slower affair now that I have started cutting up the wood again. Somehow, it seems to make my feet get really far away and my body does not take kindly to bending at all), K has run outside, caught the horse, put her back in the paddock and deduced what has happened. Apparently, the horses broke the latch to the gate in their quest-for-grass-on-the-other-side-of-the-paddock-fence.
So two full hours before I normally get up, I am outside in a surprisingly chilly, 8 degrees C morning playing handyman. At least it was easy to fix. Move the latch 3 inches higher, 8 new screws and voila! Finished. Sure you have to spend your time avoiding kisses and nibbles while working… But Sophie just can’t help herself.
